A dragon is born

The roots of the Fireblade Clan go back to a remote past, towards the ancient and long gone Arkhosia, long before the war that destroyed it, and so long ago that its origins are lost in the fogs of History. It is unknown if the peculiarity is what gives the Clan its name, or if instead its members decided to honor their name this way, but from time immemorial no Fireblade has ever used a blunt weapon, unless he couldn’t avoid it. It is also particular to this clan that every Fireblade has fire as his main breath power, though there are those who have developed some other kind.

Either training in armed combat or arcane arts, a Fireblade will dedicate all his efforts to the search of excelence in his path, but it is also customary for a member of the Clan to not limit himself to one activity. Besides the craft they have chosen for battle, they will pursue another art, which is traditionaly passed down from father to son. With the course of generations that knowledge is refined, so that a Fireblade that has barely abandoned his chilkdhood shows an astounding domain of the acquired ability. In the Glaedr family (to which Godric belongs, a little known fact since a dragoborn rarely identifies by family name, opting instread to use the Clan’s) the traditional art is metalsmith.

It was also customary for a Fireblades ushering into adulthood to be celebrated by the entire clan; often the young adult would receive a gift: Flame Bracers created by the joint work of the Clan’s best smiths and wizards. Such a gift would be the definitive proof of the Clan’s acknowledgemet of the new adult. This custom was lost with the fall of Arkhosia.

That event in the ancient war against tieflings and demons, caused the Fireblade to become nomads, since they refused to settle down on any place other than a dragonborn nation. This however did not mean that the Clan was dissolved, but nevertheless the members dispersed, always on the road, in the continious search for personal honor and glory. They would only stay on a fixed location to raise a new child, and when he came of age, they would again part ways, each on the journey for his own glory.

Theros and Lunara Fireblade established a home in Wintershard, a tiny village in the mountain region near Fallcrest, little known due to his small size and lack of roads to link it to other civilized zones. In that little village Godric was born, and soon after, Lunara left, as was her race’s way, leaving Godric’s father with the task of nurturing until adulthood.

Theros educated Godric, teaching him the dragonborn values and preparing him for an adventurer’s life. He trained him in combat as well as instructed him in the family art of metalsmith, which Godric mastered with ease becomins an extraordinary craftman for his age.

Since a young age, Godric has had ocasional dreams in which he saw himself years in the future. In some of them he would be in great human cities, in others he would stand in a great dragonborn city. In all of them he was recognized and acclaimed by his people, an authentic and powerful Fireblade, his Flame Bracers igniting his axe’s blade, and roaring in victory. Simple dreams, of course, since there are no more dragonborn cities and Fireblades have not received bracers at adulthood for some time.

When it was finaly time for Godric to leave childhood behind, Theros gave him a prting gift: a Fullblade he himself had crafted, and even though he knew Godric favored axes he insisted that he used it at least on his first adventure, like Theros himself had done when he reached his maturity.

Kobold Hall

Godric departed for Fallcrest, where he met those who would become his trusted allies of United Colors of Bennethor and kept the promise to his father, using the fullblade in the battle against a young white dragon, whose hide he took away and wears ever since.

Keep on the Shadowfell

Before departing on the adventure that would make United Colors of Bennethor the heroes of Winterhaven. Godric received from Kilu’s father, Bharash, a gift that greatly surprised him: a pair of Flame Bracers coming from Io Vanthor itself. Ever since that, his dreams do not appear so far-fetched.

Personality traits

Godric is a fine example of a young dragonborn. Proud, stubborn, honorable and competitive, not without a certain naivetée, product of his young age. Patience, however, is not counted amongst his virtues. He occasionally forgets not everyone will maintain a code of honor, so when he is reminded of that fact he becomes borderline paraoind and distrustful.

Godric tries to behave in a manner fitting a true Fireblade at all times, seeking to honor his race and his Clan, as weel as obtaining his own glory. He has little tolerance for treason and even less forgiveness. Only his loyalty to his comrades prevented him from slaying Ninaran for her treason.

Loyal to his people to the point of fanatism, Godric would rather die than to see a comrade come to harm and indeed does so frequently, since he is often the first to fall in each battle.

He also has a predilection for objects taken from enemies defeated in combat, or during the course of an adventure. He thinks of them as small tokens of the glory he procured.

Mannerisms and appearance

Godric is rather tall, and his scales are of a golden shine. He carries on his back the fullblade granted by his father, and on each arm the Flame Bracers received from Bharash. He wears a scale armor he got by quickly solving a riddle and is armed with an axe and a shield. On his feet he wears magical sandals that are an enormous advantage since he is prone to fall in pits. He completes his outfit with the hide of a slayed dragon he obtained on his first adventure, wich he wears on his back like some sort of hooded cloak.

Godric’s eyes are crimsom red, and they glow like burning coal when he unleashes his fiery breath.

Companions and allies

Godric is a member of the United Colors of Bennethor, and he is happy to be. He has a fairly good relationship with his comrades in arms.

He admires Luisana’s proficiency with her swords even if the elf is not particularly bright in other aspects of life. He respects Edwyn, mindful of the fact that both tieflings and dragonborns share a common past that has caused great damage to both races. The have also a common kinship for fire.

Even though he does not usually understands the tactis employed by Thoradin on a regular basis (and he strongly suspects it is not due to his own lack oif strategic thinking), he values the cleric’s efforts to keep him alive in combat.

Kilu enjoys Godric’s camaraderie for various reasons, amongst which we can mention the common race, the battlefields they shared and the fact that her father has given him such a precious gift.

He is joined with Thargon (or so Godric thinks) by the bond that can only come from facing shoulder to shoulder a myriad of foes, fighting alongside each other and emerging victorious, covered in the blood of their enemies mixed with their own. Both of their axes work together in unison, something that brings Godric enormous satisfaction.
